Silver City Theatre, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing live performance to the community, presents Dog Gone, a 60-minute comedy by playwright Brenda McFarlane, starring Hallie Harris at the El Sol Theatre this April.

After one fight too many, Alice storms out of her marriage and heads home to Canada — with her dog, of course. Somewhere in the Arizona desert, Sassy disappears. What follows involves animal control, desert strangers, stubborn hope, and a search that becomes more than a rescue mission. Alice finds the dog — and in the searching, finds her voice.

The play was first workshopped and premiered at the Winnipeg Fringe Festival with performer Irene Sankoff, with whom McFarlane collaborated following Sankoff’s success as co-writer of the Broadway musical Come From Away.

About the Playwright
Brenda McFarlane is a Best Teleplay winner at the Austin Film Festival and a published playwright whose work has appeared in festivals and theatres across North America, including the Toronto Fringe Festival, NYC Fringe Festival, and Los Angeles’ Edgefest. She trained at the Canadian Film Centre. Selected praise by major critics:

“A terrific example of McFarlane’s sharp eye for the absurdities of modern life and her distinctively quirky sense of humor.”  — H.J. Kirchoff, The Globe and Mail

“Perceptive, funny and angst-ridden.”— Mira Friedlander, Variety

“…well told and engrossing… McFarlane’s writing is taut.” — Vit Wagner, The Toronto Star

About the Performer
Hallie Harris, a well-loved Silver City performer, appears in the title role of Dog Gone, bringing the play’s many characters to life in this one-woman performance.

Performances run during the first three weeks of April. Two Tuesday performances include free admission for local high school students, an initiative supported by the Mimbres Region Arts Council (MRAC). Partial proceeds from the production will benefit the High Desert Humane Society.
